Liverpool

The latest Liverpool transfer news has taken a big turn. Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Liverpool‘s sporting directors are putting together a bid of around €80m to land Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo this summer. Forest picked up the 23-year-old Brazilian from Corinthians for just €12m back in August 2023, and since then, he has turned into one of the Premier League’s most solid and reliable young defenders.

Liverpool Eye €80m Murillo Move as Konate Exit Looms

Liverpool see Murillo as the perfect replacement for Ibrahima Konate, whose contract is set to expire in summer 2026. TEAMtalk confirms the Reds are stepping up their chase because a Konate exit now looks like a done deal. The race for his signature is wide open, though.

Chelsea have done more legwork on Murillo than anyone else over the last year, and Football Insider noted that the Blues made him their main target after losing out on Jeremy Jacquet to the Anfield club. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United are all keeping a close eye on the one-cap Brazil international, making this one of the biggest Liverpool transfer stories of the summer.

Forest’s struggle at 17th in the Premier League adds a real twist to the situation, as dropping to the Championship would almost certainly force them to sell. Even so, TEAMtalk says Forest will stick to their guns on a £60m–£70m price tag, no matter where they finish in the table.

This specific Liverpool transfer update matters even more at Anfield since Virgil van Dijk leaves this summer, and neither Joe Gomez nor Giovanni Leoni look like a certain long-term fix at centre-back. Because of that, Murillo looks like the most logical answer to a serious gap in the squad.

Can Murillo Actually Steady Liverpool’s Most Unsettled Backline in Years?

Liverpool’s defensive rebuild goes deeper than most fans realise. Slot uses a high defensive line that needs serious aerial strength and recovery speed; traits Murillo shows every week. He racked up 242 Premier League clearances across 2024–25, more than any other defender in the league. His only real question mark is a lack of top European experience, but this Liverpool transfer chase shows the Reds see him as a long-term leader, not a quick fix, at just 23.
