A report by The Evening Standard highlights a dangerous period for Chelsea. Head coach Liam Rosenior faces heavy scrutiny after a 3-0 defeat against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Blues currently hold sixth place in the Premier League. They missed a major chance to gain ground after Brighton beat Liverpool. On the pitch, Everton outclassed them entirely. Standard Sport lists four urgent issues Rosenior must solve in the final seven games to reach the Champions League places.

Can Rosenior turn the tide before it’s too late?

Individual errors top the list of concerns. Filip Jorgensen made costly mistakes against PSG in the first leg, while Mamadou Sarr struggled in the second. Robert Sanchez added to the tally with a poor performance at Everton. These mistakes are now a recurring pattern. This leads to the second issue: a lack of goals. Chelsea recently went three straight matches without scoring for the first time since September 2023. Their current four-game losing streak carries a dismal 12-2 aggregate score.

The third problem involves work rate. Opponents have outrun Chelsea in every single Premier League match this season. This 31-game trend has lasted through two different head coaches, suggesting the issue sits deep within the squad. Finally, the defence is struggling. Chelsea have not kept a clean sheet since 17th January, Rosenior’s very first league match.

Does Rosenior’s inexperience make Chelsea’s problems unfixable?

The 41-year-old coach moved to Stamford Bridge in January. He had no prior experience managing in the Premier League. He took over from Enzo Maresca, who delivered both Conference League and Club World Cup trophies. Chelsea took a clear gamble by moving Rosenior over from their sister club, Strasbourg.

The core of the problem is tactical. Rosenior inherited players who signed for a different philosophy. Interestingly, the underlying data shows Chelsea still create chances. Even though they lost the last four games by a combined 12-2, they actually won the xG (expected goals) battle in every single one. The attacking system works, but the finishing and concentration are missing. This gap between the process and the result is the most frustrating part for any manager. It proves the setup is correct, but the execution fails under pressure.

The Chelsea board continues to back Rosenior. They intend to keep him in charge for next season. They recognise that the current squad does not yet fit his specific system. This patience is likely the correct approach. Sacking a coach who is establishing a clear style, only because players lose focus at vital moments, solves nothing. Chelsea requires a full pre-season under one consistent voice before anyone can judge this project fairly.
