Three men who could restore order at Chelsea
Chelsea sacked Liam Rosenior after just 23 matches, and the Blues need a permanent manager who brings clarity, tactical conviction, and enough credibility to steady a squad that is dropping points at an alarming rate. Three names stand out above the noise: Andoni Iraola, Cesc Fàbregas, and Xabi Alonso.
1. Andoni Iraola
Iraola is the bookmakers’ favourite, following his impressive work at Bournemouth. He builds teams that press ferociously, win the ball back quickly, and develop young talent with purpose; three qualities that Chelsea desperately need right now.
Chelsea finished 20th for distance covered per game this season, and Iraola would almost certainly fix that lack of energy head-on. His biggest weakness, though, is that he hasn’t coached at a club under this much global pressure before. Fàbregas has a connection to Chelsea that few candidates can match, having won the Premier League title there during his playing days. Beyond the nostalgia, his coaching record shows he is the real deal. He led Como, a club in Italy’s fourth tier as recently as 2019, to fifth place in Serie A this season, which is an incredible achievement.
The Spaniard’s tactical mind and modern approach have seen his odds drop to 4/1 since Rosenior’s exit. The main worry remains his lack of experience at a club with Chelsea’s massive expectations, and Romano confirms that Como believe Fàbregas will stay, meaning Chelsea would need to act fast to pull him away.

3. Xabi Alonso
Alonso has a rare kind of authority, a manager who beat the odds to win the Bundesliga at Leverkusen and earned respect from world-class players throughout his career. He is still available after his time at Real Madrid ended early, and Chelsea’s ownership would definitely find his track record hard to ignore. The downside is that the Liverpool job might be more tempting for him, and Sky Sports reports that Chelsea don’t have a shortlist or a clear number-one target yet. Even so, getting Alonso would change the mood around Chelsea overnight.
