Manchester United transfer news: Cristian Orozco flying in for medical
Manchester United transfer news: Pipe Sierra broke the news on Friday, and it’s a proper bit of scouting. Cristian Orozco, Colombia’s 17-year-old youth captain, boards a flight to England this Sunday. He’ll head straight to Carrington for his medical before putting pen to paper at Old Trafford. Interestingly, he’s travelling with Chief Scout Giuseppe Antonaccio. That’s the man who spotted him, tracked him, and ultimately convinced the club to pull the trigger.
This isn’t a fresh rumour. Fabrizio Romano actually called it back in September 2025, revealing a deal worth around £750,000 ($1 million) with Fortaleza CEIF. United’s legal team quietly finalised the contracts months ago. They moved early, wrapping things up before the Under-17 World Cup could inflate his price tag. Getting it over the line now just feels like smart business.
Who is the Colombian midfielder?
Born in Valledupar in July 2008, Orozco left home at just 14 to chase his football dream in Antioquia. He ended up at Rojo FC in Guarne, quickly establishing himself as a disciplined defensive midfielder. Youth coaches always flagged his maturity. He asked the right questions, absorbed tactical shape instantly, and led by example without making a fuss. Soon, he was captaining his country’s U17s.
Orozco’s performances at the U17 World Cup showed exactly why United’s scouting network flagged him. Against a brilliant German side, he completely ran the show from deep, dictating the tempo and breaking up play effortlessly. Colombia drew that game, later exiting the tournament after a 2-0 loss to France, but Orozco’s stock soared.
His domestic stats look completely different, though. Look at the data from this year’s Liga BetPlay Apertura, and you’ll see zero goals and zero assists. He has played a total of 16 senior minutes across two brief substitute appearances for Fortaleza. His debut was an 83rd-minute cameo during a heavy 4-1 loss away to Atlético Nacional, where his only real contribution was a blocked shot. But United aren’t buying him for what he did in the Colombian top flight. They are buying the raw profile.
Once the final paperwork clears, the plan is to drop Orozco straight into the Under-21 pre-season training camp in Germany. He turns 18 on 13 July. That milestone means he can follow the same path as Diego Leon, splitting his time between first-team training sessions and getting regular competitive minutes with the academy side.

The environment won’t feel completely alien to him. He actually visited Old Trafford back in December 2025, touring the facilities and spending a few days training with both the U18s and U21s. The club laid the groundwork early. At 5ft 10in, he already possesses a remarkably sturdy, powerful frame. Physically, he looks much further along than Sekou Kone did when he first arrived from Mali. For a nominal £750,000 fee, the financial calculation is incredibly basic. You secure a high-ceiling talent early, develop him within your own system, and let the market value take care of itself.
