Farès Ghedjemis to Celtic: Celtic have put €9 million on the table for Frosinone winger Farès Ghedjemis, according to journalist Murat Özen. That is a serious opening offer. It may still be nowhere near enough.

The Algerian winger, 23, enjoyed a breakout campaign in Serie B, scoring 15 goals and adding three assists in 37 appearances. Then came the 2026 World Cup. His price has shifted.

Farès Ghedjemis to Celtic: Celtic’s opening offer makes sense on paper

Celtic’s approach makes sense. Ghedjemis is a left-footed inverted winger, quick over the first few yards and far more interested in shooting than endlessly recycling possession. His finishing numbers were among the best for European wingers last season, while his acceleration gives him a useful weapon when defenders are running towards their own goal.

For Brendan Rodgers, that profile makes plenty of sense. €9m, too, isn’t a daft valuation for a player whose reputation was built largely in Italy’s second tier. Celtic have to protect their transfer model. They can’t simply start throwing money around. But Frosinone aren’t negotiating in a vacuum.

Monaco have changed the equation

AS Monaco are now pushing with a package worth around €10m, and their interest matters more than another club simply matching Celtic’s bid.

There is a sporting angle. Maghnes Akliouche has left for Paris Saint-Germain, creating room for another attacking player with flair. Ghedjemis, born in France and representing Algeria, fits neatly.

Then there’s Frosinone’s stance. The Italian club have reportedly mocked bids arriving in tiny increments, including increases of €50,000. That’s hardly the behaviour of a seller desperate to get a deal done. Some reports have put their expectations closer to €20m. That matters when deciding how far Celtic stretch.

Celtic may have to blink

That is where this gets awkward for Celtic.

The €9m bid looks sensible as a first move. As a winning offer, though? Not really. Ghedjemis has had a strong season, a World Cup, and growing interest from Monaco. His market value is being dictated by all three.

Celtic can wait, negotiate and test Frosinone’s resolve. But if the Italian club genuinely believe they can extract something close to €20m, O’Neill’s side may soon have to decide whether Ghedjemis is worth breaking their usual transfer ceiling for. €9m opens the conversation. It probably doesn’t finish it.
