Gilberto Mora to Manchester United: Manchester United are watching Gilberto Mora. Closely. Récord reports that the 17-year-old Club Tijuana midfielder has caught the eye at Old Trafford after a remarkable season in Liga MX. His market value has risen to €25 million, with Real Madrid, Benfica and Borussia Dortmund also monitoring him.
There is a wrinkle, though. Mora cannot make an international move before turning 18 on October 14, 2026. That puts the winter transfer window on the table, with United reportedly considering a pre-agreement before rivals can get ahead of them.
Gilberto Mora to Manchester United: Why Mora has attracted United’s attention
For a player still waiting to celebrate his 18th birthday, Mora’s numbers are ridiculous. He made 53 appearances for Tijuana during the 2025/26 campaign, scored six times and collected 14 senior caps for Mexico. Then came the World Cup.
Mora started Mexico’s knockout matches against the Czech Republic, Ecuador and England, showing the sort of calmness on the ball that usually takes years to develop. His 61-minute outing against England was particularly revealing. He wasn’t overawed. He wanted the ball.
Technically, that’s the attraction. Mora completes 86.5 per cent of his passes and looks most dangerous when receiving between the lines, turning on the half-turn and driving into space. He can play as an advanced central midfielder or drift towards the left, where his movement becomes difficult to track.
The problem with spending €25m
United’s midfield doesn’t necessarily need another player in that mould right now.
United have already spent £85 million on Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, with physical presence a priority after Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s injury. Mora, at 1.68m, isn’t going to suddenly make the midfield harder to play through.
His 63.64 per cent tackle success rate is respectable. It isn’t dominant. There’s little aerial threat, either, and he doesn’t offer the kind of defensive protection Carrick’s double-pivot can demand. That makes the €25m question rather awkward. The talent is obvious. So is the ceiling.

But United have spent too many years collecting players without always fixing the problem sitting directly in front of them. Mora could become a star. Paying top money now, before he can even walk through the Old Trafford door, would require faith and a willingness to accept that the midfield’s immediate issues still won’t be solved.
