Manchester United transfer news has reportedly centred on Barcelona captain Raphinha, with El Nacional claiming United could offer a huge financial package to tempt him away from Spain.
The report says United are prepared to make Brazilian the highest-paid player in the Premier League. The proposal would test Barcelona’s resolve over a forward central to Flick’s side.
Raphinha has started 2026/27 in strong scoring form. The Brazilian has nine La Liga goals and three assists from six league appearances, while he added two Champions League goals against Feyenoord. That gives him 11 goals and three assists in seven appearances.
His hat-trick against Racing Santander on September 16 underlined the current run. Barcelona won 7-2, while Raphinha scored three times. He has operated from both wings and central areas, giving Flick attacking options. The report lands at an interesting moment. United can offer Premier League status and wages, yet Barcelona have secured Raphinha until June 2028.

Several factors make this move difficult, even with huge wages.
First, Raphinha has publicly signalled his desire to remain at Barcelona. Barcelona confirmed his 2025 renewal until June 2028, while AS reports that the Catalan club are considering another extension to 2030. Raphinha has since indicated that he would like to finish his career in Catalonia if the club wants him to stay.
Then comes his role. He has become one of Flick’s senior figures and currently wears the captain’s armband. His pressing, work rate and movement matter greatly to Barcelona’s attack. The Brazilian can shoot from range, attack space with late runs and deliver dangerous dead balls.
There is one limitation. Raphinha does not rely on isolated one-versus-one dribbling. He gets more from combinations and movement, while a low block can restrict him.
United could pursue him, but the economics look severe. Raphinha turns 30 in December, has a contract until 2028 and earns a substantial salary. A fee around €90m or more, plus Premier League-level wages, would represent a major commitment.
For United, that means heavy spending on an established attacker instead of younger wide players. For Raphinha, leaving a Barcelona side top of La Liga for a rebuilding United attack would require more than a bigger payslip.
