Manchester United Transfer News has gained another name after TEAMtalk reported that United checked on Borussia Dortmund forward Maximilian Beier during the summer. Arsenal have shown interest in the German, while Tottenham have monitored him too, giving the story a wider Premier League angle.
TEAMtalk says Arsenal scouts have followed Beier extensively over the past 12 months and regard his movement and versatility as attractive qualities for English football. The report adds that United and Tottenham checked on him as interest around the Dortmund forward developed during the summer.
Beier has since strengthened his case with a strong start to the 2026/27 campaign. The 23-year-old scored the winner in Dortmund’s 1-0 away victory over Stuttgart on September 19, finishing a low cross from Jobe Bellingham in the 70th minute. Bundesliga’s official player profile lists Beier with four league appearances, one goal and two assists this season.
It records 69 sprints and 240 intensive runs, while his top speed has reached 35.61 km/h. Dortmund sit top of the Bundesliga after four straight wins. Those figures help explain why English clubs have kept him on their scouting lists. Dortmund signed Beier from Hoffenheim in August 2024 and gave him a contract until June 2029.

There is a good football case for the interest, yet January 2027 would bring a different question: do United need another versatile forward more urgently than a different type of player? Beier can move across the frontline, attack space and arrive from wider areas, rather than spending every minute as a fixed No.9. That mobility can hurt teams that defend with a high line, especially when the forward receives quick service into open grass.
United’s current situation makes that strength less straightforward. Michael Carrick’s side needs better control during defensive transitions, while the midfield still requires greater physical presence and protection in front of the centre-backs. United have already spent heavily on midfield additions during the summer, but the squad still needs balance across several areas. A new forward would therefore have to earn his place against existing attacking options rather than simply filling an obvious vacancy.
Beier’s record gives United plenty to like. He scored 16 goals in 33 Bundesliga matches for Hoffenheim in 2023/24 before Dortmund signed him, and he is one of the Bundesliga’s fastest players. His current campaign has added another chapter, with two assists alongside his Stuttgart goal. Yet his qualities can become less effective when opponents sit deep and remove the running lanes he prefers. He can contribute between lines and from the flanks, but a compact Premier League defence would ask different questions.
That is important for United. A January deal would need more than a promising profile; it would need a clear tactical role, regular minutes and a financial case that Dortmund would accept.
Beier remains under contract until 2029, and Dortmund have little reason to rush a sale while he contributes in domestic and European competition. The club paid a reported €28.5m to sign him from Hoffenheim, so any winter negotiation could demand a significant premium.
For Manchester United, the summer monitoring matters because it shows Beier has entered their scouting picture. It does not mean a January bid is planned.
