Xabi Alonso has a crowded attacking group, while Chelsea spent a club-record €138 million on Morgan Rogers this summer. Bringing Kavuma-McQueen back halfway through the campaign could leave him competing for scraps, particularly if Alonso relies on established attackers.
Instead, the teenager should complete the season in Hampshire and keep building his physical resilience. His Blackburn performance showed the benefit of giving him responsibility rather than protecting him inside an academy structure. 10 shots and an assist from a 17-year-old winger represent meaningful senior exposure.
There is another tactical reason to wait. Kavuma-McQueen is left-footed and can operate on either wing, but his best work has come from the left. That profile could give Alonso a different attacking option because elite clubs have relatively few natural left-footed left wingers.
