Chelsea will look to sell some of their players in the summer
Three Chelsea players, Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap, and Benoît Badiashile, look almost certain to leave Stamford Bridge before the 2026-27 season begins. The club are preparing for a busy and difficult summer. Chelsea sit well outside the Champions League places as of 22nd April 2026, and that reality is now driving almost every major decision the club make, including which players stay and which are shown the door.
Liam Rosenior‘s side have lost six of their last seven matches, leaving them closer to Newcastle United in 14th than to Liverpool in fifth. Missing out on top-level European football doesn’t just frustrate the fans; it sends a clear signal to agents and rival clubs. Before examining why these three departures feel inevitable, it helps to look at the bigger picture.
Chelsea spent huge amounts recently to build what was supposed to be a world-class squad. However, a bloated roster always leads to casualties, and this summer’s clear-out looks set to be one of the biggest in recent Premier League history. It was never a question of if players would leave, but rather which ones, and why this feels like the right time.
1. Alejandro Garnacho
Garnacho joined Chelsea for around £40 million on 30th August 2025, arriving with high expectations following his run of spectacular goals at Manchester United. However, the Argentine winger has struggled to secure a spot in the starting eleven. During the 2025-26 Premier League season, Garnacho has managed just 1 goal and 4 assists in 1,267 minutes, with an average FotMob rating of 6.88.
These stats show a player who is drifting rather than improving. Multiple reports suggest Chelsea are ready to sell him, especially with Geovany Quenda arriving from Sporting CP. That signing essentially confirms Garnacho’s time on the wing is up. Finding a buyer for the right price is the main challenge, but clubs looking for a young, fast winger with potential will likely be interested.
2. Liam Delap
Delap‘s time at Chelsea has been one of the more disappointing stories of the recent transfer windows. Chelsea triggered his £30 million release clause from Ipswich Town in June 2025 after he scored 12 goals for them the previous year. That promise has faded at Stamford Bridge. In the 2025-26 campaign, Delap has scored only once in 890 minutes, with a low FotMob rating of 6.35.
He is clearly struggling for rhythm and confidence. With Emmanuel Emegha joining from Strasbourg, Delap has fallen even further down the pecking order, and a move away would likely suit everyone. Newcastle United were interested in him before he chose Chelsea and are reportedly considering a fresh bid, which could offer him a fresh start.

3. Benoît Badiashile
Of the three, Badiashile’s exit seems the most certain. The Frenchman looked good during his first six months at the club, but his form and reputation have dropped off significantly. He is now the third-choice left-footed centre-back and has effectively been frozen out by Rosenior. With Jorrel Hato playing well lately, a sale is very likely; Badiashile might have already played his last game for the club. For a player who cost a significant fee, it’s a tough loss to take, but one the club seems ready to accept to move on.

Chelsea’s summer will define the club’s direction for years, especially compared to Arsenal’s steady rise. Selling Garnacho, Delap, and Badiashile isn’t just about trimming the squad; it’s an admission that expensive signings don’t always work out, and that the gap between the club’s goals and their current reality has never been wider.
