Sunderland overwhelmed a fragile Burnley on Monday night with a 3-0 win at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League. The result lifts Regis Le Bris’s men to eighth in the Premier League. The hosts struck early when Habib Diarra forced an Axel Tuanzebe own goal after just nine minutes.

Diarra then scored before halftime, drilling a deflected shot past a helpless Martin Dubravka to double the lead. Chemsdine Talbi sealed the result late in the second half with a stunning curling effort. The Black Cats’ unbeaten home run stretches to 12 matches, while Scott Parker’s Burnley remain in the drop zone. They are 11 points from safety and winless in fifteen.

Sunderland 3-0 Burnley: Black Cats Maul Clarets at Stadium of Light:

1. Diarra’s Return Sparks Dominance

Fresh from his Africa Cup of Nations duties with Senegal, Habib Diarra immediately gave Sunderland’s midfield a massive lift. Le Bris put him straight into the starting lineup, and the midfielder rewarded that trust by terrorising Burnley’s defence all night. He helped create the opener with a quick one-two involving Brian Brobbey before firing the shot that caught Tuanzebe.

His hard work paid off again in the 32nd minute. After picking up a blocked pass, he smashed a powerful finish through a crowded penalty area. It constituted a performance that showed exactly what Sunderland missed while he was away, as his uncomplicated style left Burnley’s defenders pursuing illusions.

2. The Stadium of Light is still a fortress

Regis Le Bris has made Wearside a place visiting teams dread. Sunderland’s high press completely smothered Burnley, holding the visitors to a tiny 0.06 expected goals (xG) and zero shots on target. The home crowd fed off that energy, creating a pressurised atmosphere the Clarets simply couldn’t handle.

While Burnley looked lost and hesitant, Sunderland played with real assurance and accuracy. They dictated the tempo and gave their fans a demonstration of game control. This win proves that leaving the North East with points is a massive task, especially when Le Bris’s tactics are clicking like this.

3. Talbi’s Brilliance Compounds Parker’s Despair

Chemsdine Talbi delivered the knockout blow that might seal Scott Parker’s fate. In the 72nd minute, the Moroccan winger picked up the ball out wide, cut inside easily, and hit a curling rocket that went in off the bar. That bit of individual magic brought out the gap between the two sides.

Parker watched from the sidelines as his players gave the ball away time and again, showing very little of the fight needed for a relegation battle. With 15 games without a win and a defence that can’t stop conceding, Burnley looks headed for the Championship unless the board acts fast.
