There are few weeks left when India begins their 2026 T20 World Cup campaign against the USA at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 7. India is a defending champion and will look to win back-to-back T20 WC titles—a feat never achieved before.
Heading into the WC, what will be the ideal bowling lineup for Team India? The Men in Blue will likely opt for a combination of three pacers and three frontline spinners (including all-rounders), with the exact playing XI depending on pitch conditions. But the core pace attack relies on star bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.
India’s likely bowling combination
Apart from Bumrah and Arshdeep, the bowlers India has are specialists Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakaravarthy. All-rounders Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar.
Yorker specialist Bumrah is an automatic selection who can bowl in all phases of the game. Arshdeep is also a key player, especially in the powerplay and deathovers. The left-arm seamer can swing the new ball and complement Bumrah in the death overs. The third fast bowling option for India is Harshit, Dube, and Pandya.
However, there’s no doubt that India will not go with Pandya, as the 32-year-old player provides crucial balance to the side as a seam-bowling all-rounder, offering batting power, handy fast-bowling, and fielding skills, which allows team management greater flexibility in playing XI.
As the T20 WC will be played in India and Sri Lanka, Suryakumar Yadav’s team will go with three prime spin bowlers. Left-arm spin all-rounder and vice-captain Axar Patel provides batting depth, while specialist wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy offer wicket-taking abilities in the middle overs.
Washington Sundar is also a spin-bowling all-round option in the squad, but his inclusion in the XI depends on the pitch conditions.

Two frontline pacers: Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.
