Ace South African lower-order batter and an experienced campaigner, David Miller, is finally clear to travel alongside the Proteas squad to India for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Miller suffered a serious groin injury during the SA20 2025 campaign while representing the Paarl Royals. As a result, he was ruled out of the SA20 playoffs and South Africa’s ongoing T20I series against the West Indies, which the Proteas won 2-1, convincingly defeating the West Indies in the first and second T20Is by huge margins.
A fit David Miller is instrumental for South Africa’s upcoming World Cup campaign. Miller is a proven match finisher who has single-handedly saved South African innings from collapse on numerous occasions. Miller has an impressive strike rate of 140.56 in T20Is with 2,630 runs to his name in 133 appearances for his national side.
David Miller’s return: a sigh of relief for the Proteas
South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad appeared injury-ridden until this positive news surfaced for them. The Proteas had to replace Donovan Ferreira with Tristan Stubbs. Ferreira was ruled out due to a broken shoulder during the SA20 2025. Tony De Zorzi is another addition to South Africa’s injury list. The left-hander batter is currently suffering a hamstring tear and had to be replaced by Ryan Rickelton. Thus, Miller’s return is indeed a sigh of relief for the Proteas.
South Africa is scheduled to begin its World Cup campaign against Canada in Group C on February 9 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This clash will be followed by group stage matches against Afghanistan, New Zealand, and the UAE on February 11, 14, and 18, respectively.
