Graeme Bailey reports that Antonio Rudiger wants back into English football this summer. His agents are already sounding out Premier League clubs about the Real Madrid defender. Even though his deal runs until June 2026, Madrid haven’t put a new offer on the table yet. That silence has forced Rudiger’s camp to start looking at other options.
TEAMtalk says Tottenham are leading the chase. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace and West Ham have been kept in the loop about what a free transfer would actually cost. Word is that Rudiger is even willing to take a pay cut just to make the move happen.
Rudiger Eyes Premier League Return as Real Madrid Contract Winds Down
For him, London is the place to be. His reps did try his old club, Chelsea, but the new owners at BlueCo said no. They are sticking firmly to their rule against signing anyone over 30. This leaves the door wide open for Spurs, Palace, and the Hammers to snag a world-class centre-back.
Is Rudiger Really Leaving the Bernabéu?
It is a tough spot for the German star. He hits 33 in March 2026, and Real Madrid are not exactly known for being sentimental with older players. With his contract ticking away, a summer exit looks like a safe bet. Florentino Pérez seldom gives long-term deals to defenders in their mid-thirties; he would much rather swap them out for younger blood. Rudiger is still the heart of the German national team’s defence, but he knows he needs to be starting every week to keep that spot for the next big tournament.
Madrid likely see his massive wages and his age as reasons to move on, especially if they can land a younger replacement like Leny Yoro. Because of that, he will probably be packing his bags in 2026. Out of all the clubs interested, Spurs feels like the most natural fit. The club need aggressive defenders who can sprint back and cover a high line, mainly with Cristian Romero linked to Los Blancos.

These are things Rudiger still does better than almost anyone. He will bring some much-needed backbone to a Spurs defence that can look brilliant one minute and shaky the next. While West Ham and Palace are in London, they cannot offer the Champions League football that Rudiger is used to. Tottenham provide the competitive ceiling he will want for his last big career move.
