Manchester United transfer news: Mason Mount isn’t going anywhere
Manchester United transfer news: There is a lot of noise out there. Bids, counter-bids, and agents practically living at Manchester airport. But the latest Manchester United transfer news is refreshing in its simplicity. Mason Mount is staying put. He doesn’t want to leave, and United have no intention of shifting him.
They paid Chelsea an initial £55 million back in 2023. With add-ons, that package hits £60 million. You don’t just bin off that kind of investment because of a rough patch. Despite heavy interest from a few Premier League rivals, Old Trafford bosses aren’t blinking.
What Chris Wheeler is saying about the midfielder
Chris Wheeler at the Daily Mail broke the story. He is as plugged-in as they come on the United beat. His update is definitive: zero plans for a sale, and zero desire from the player to force an exit. United want him fit. Period.
Aston Villa and Fulham have both been sniffing around. Mick Brown, the former United chief scout, even confirmed their interest. Good luck to them. Mount is tied down until 2028, and United hold an option for an extra year. That sort of contractual leverage makes it incredibly easy for the club to say no.
He managed 23 Premier League appearances this past season. Just over a thousand minutes on the grass. Three goals, two bookings. Raw stats do not tell the whole story here, though. Take November 30. He whipped in a brilliant free-kick to win the match against Crystal Palace. It was actually the first time he had lasted a full 90 minutes in the league since moving north.
Every single one of his three league goals came from his 12 starts. One goal every four starts isn’t groundbreaking, but look at the medical history. Setbacks have plagued the guy. A nasty knock early in 2026 completely derailed him. He vanished from matchday squads after January 25, a blow that effectively killed off his season just as he was finding some rhythm.
Wayne Rooney pointed it out during the campaign. Mount has bags of energy, but he simply hasn’t been fit since arriving in Manchester. Rio Ferdinand said much the same. Nobody doubts the talent. It is the body that keeps breaking down.
Cast your mind back to the tail end of the previous campaign. He scored against Brentford to break a year-long drought, then bagged a clinical brace in that 4-1 Europa League demolition of Athletic Bilbao. He started the final, too. That is the real Mason Mount. That is exactly why United will not cut their losses.

Ignore the noise from Italy. Reports in Milan claimed United offered him to AC Milan for around €25 million. Wheeler’s latest update puts that rumour to bed. United are not biting, and Mount is staying right where he is.
