Alonso has already made headlines by bringing Morgan Rogers to Stamford Bridge in a British-record £117 million transfer from Aston Villa. His next priority sits much deeper on the pitch. Robert Sánchez and Filip Jørgensen have failed to lock down the number-one shirt, leaving Chelsea still searching for the long-term answer they have lacked since Thibaut Courtois left in 2018.

Costa arrives with an outstanding record. During the 2025/26 Liga Portugal season, he played 33 league matches, kept 21 clean sheets and featured for 2,906 minutes as Porto secured another domestic title.
