Jamie Gittens Transfer News: According to GOAL, Roma have turned their attention to Jamie Gittens after Alejandro Garnacho rejected their approach and joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan. Sporting director Tony D’Amico has now identified the Chelsea winger as a possible alternative, with a loan deal under discussion.

Jamie Gittens Transfer News: Roma turn to Chelsea winger

Gian Piero Gasperini wants another left-sided attacker before Roma open their Serie A campaign against Fiorentina on August 24. He wants pace, creativity and relentless pressing, while he also expects his wide forwards to cut inside and create problems between the lines.

That description suits Gittens. Chelsea paid £52 million to sign the 22-year-old from Borussia Dortmund, but injuries disrupted his first season badly. He finished with one goal and five assists in 27 appearances, including 16 Premier League outings, after a serious hamstring problem destroyed any chance of sustained momentum.

Jamie Gittens Transfer News: Chelsea should approve a loan

Chelsea shouldn’t sell Gittens. A straight loan makes far more sense.

Writing him off after one broken season would be absurd, particularly with his contract running until 2032. Gittens still carries the explosive acceleration and direct dribbling that persuaded Chelsea to spend heavily, while five assists in limited minutes suggest he can create chances when he finds a rhythm.

His fitness remains the bigger concern. After the hamstring tear in January and another setback during training in April, he needs matches rather than occasional substitute appearances. Chelsea’s attack has become even more crowded following Morgan Rogers’ £117 million arrival, so regular starts could prove difficult. A Roma loan would give Gittens a cleaner route back.

Jamie Gittens Transfer News: Roma could give him the reset he needs

Gasperini could suit him perfectly. His system demands hard running, aggressive pressing and quick movement in the final third, while Gittens would have freedom to drive inside and attack overloaded spaces.

Chelsea would keep control of the player, avoid taking a huge financial hit and give their £52 million signing a proper chance to rebuild his confidence. Roma have cooled their interest in Antonio Nusa because RB Leipzig want €60 million, while Malick Fofana remains another option below Lyon’s €45 million valuation.

Yet Gittens offers something different: a high-upside loan without a massive transfer fee. For Chelsea, that should make the decision simple. Keep the door open, send him to Roma for a year, and don’t attach a purchase clause.
