Despite limited starts last season, Rangers believe Aydın would strengthen an area that has lacked pace and direct running. During the 2025/26 Süper Lig campaign, he featured 21 times, playing 644 league minutes and providing two assists. He added another eight appearances in the UEFA Europa League and has become a regular figure in the Turkey squad, earning 12 senior caps, including a start against the United States at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Looking only at goals and assists misses the bigger picture. Aydın spent much of last season coming off the bench, where his pace immediately stretched tiring defences. Rangers simply don’t have many players capable of producing that sort of direct threat.

Daisuke Yokota offers something completely different. He prefers receiving possession in deeper areas, linking play through short combinations and beating defenders with close control rather than raw speed. Aydın attacks space first. He drives beyond full-backs, presses aggressively and carries enough physical strength to cope with constant duels. Those qualities would give McInnes another attacking route instead of relying on technical build-up every week.

Timing makes this chase even more significant. Rangers have already watched transfer targets move elsewhere, while Celtic continue strengthening their squad. Suitable wide players become harder to find as the window reaches its closing weeks, especially those with international experience and positional flexibility.

Refusing to bridge the remaining gap in valuation could prove costly. Aydın already brings World Cup experience, tactical versatility across both wings and an ability to change matches without needing long spells on the pitch. Rangers don’t simply need another winger. They need somebody capable of altering the rhythm of a game through direct in-behind runs, relentless pressing and genuine athleticism, and that profile is becoming increasingly difficult to buy before the window closes.
