Rangers suffer blow as £6.7m-rated winger price sparks transfer twist

Couhaib Driouech to Rangers latest: Rangers have hit an early obstacle in their pursuit of Couhaib Driouech after PSV Eindhoven rejected the Scottish club’s opening offer. Transfer Feed reports that the Dutch champions believe the proposal fails to reflect the winger’s true value, leaving negotiations at a standstill for now.

PSV want at least €8 million, including bonuses, before they will sanction a sale. Rangers’ first bid reportedly reached £6.4 million (€7.5 million), leaving a gap of around €500,000 between the two clubs’ valuations. Even so, PSV have shown little interest in negotiating below their asking price.

Driouech has become one of Derek McInnes’ priority attacking targets during this transfer window. The 24-year-old Morocco international impressed despite spending much of last season as an impact substitute under Peter Bosz. His league numbers reflect that efficiency, producing four goals and four assists in 29 Eredivisie appearances while playing just 947 minutes. Europe offered an even bigger stage. He delivered three goals and two assists in seven Champions League matches, including a memorable brace against Liverpool.

Should Rangers simply meet PSV’s valuation?

Yes. Rangers shouldn’t allow this deal to drift over a relatively small difference in price.

Their 2-1 Europa League qualifying defeat to Jagiellonia Bialystok exposed a clear weakness. The side lacked genuine pace and penetration from the left, especially once possession reached the final third. Daisuke Yokota brings technical quality, yet he doesn’t offer the same explosive one-against-one threat that Driouech consistently provides.

His game revolves around driving directly at defenders, stretching defensive lines and forcing mistakes. Rangers currently lack that profile, particularly against domestic opponents who defend deep for long periods.

Why the €8 million fee still represents value

Trying to squeeze PSV for another discount poses unnecessary risk. Interest from Celta Vigo, Burnley, Genoa and Red Bull Salzburg gives the Eredivisie champions every reason to stand firm, while Rangers could easily lose the player if another club accepts the valuation first.

At 24, Driouech still offers significant resale potential alongside immediate quality. Wingers with proven Champions League production, including decisive displays against Liverpool, rarely become available for less than £7 million.

Andrew Cavenagh has backed Rangers’ ambitions in the market. Spending an extra €500,000 now looks far cheaper than restarting the search for another left winger with similar experience, European pedigree and room to grow.
