Chalobah Como Transfer confirmed: Chelsea have completed the permanent sale of Trevoh Chalobah to Como, ending a long association with the academy graduate. GOAL first detailed the agreement, with the package reported at €30 million up front, €6 million in potential add-ons and a sell-on clause. Chalobah had agreed personal terms weeks earlier and signed a five-year contract.
The 27-year-old leaves after a busy final campaign at Stamford Bridge. He made 47 appearances across competitions, scored three goals and added one assist, according to Reuters, while his season included 34 Premier League outings. His England progress continued too. He entered the World Cup third-place victory over France as a stoppage-time substitute, helping Thomas Tuchel’s side secure a 6-4 win. Chelsea’s decision followed the arrival of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, which crowded their centre-back group.
Why the Chalobah Como Transfer makes sense
From Chelsea’s side, this sale makes footballing sense even if fans dislike losing an academy product who finally looked settled. Chalobah offered versatility, physical strength and experience, yet the squad had become overloaded at centre-back. With Lacroix arriving, Chelsea had around 10 senior options for two or three positions, an awkward situation for Xabi Alonso.
Alonso has targeted four or five. Therefore, Chalobah’s departure should trigger more exits rather than another purchase. Chelsea should now push to move Axel Disasi and Benoît Badiashile, while considering the wider status of other peripheral defenders. Keeping expensive players outside the rotation creates frustration, blocks development and leaves Alonso with too many competing profiles.
What Chelsea should do next
The clearest solution involves backing Alonso’s preferred structure instead of replacing Chalobah immediately. Maxence Lacroix and Levi Colwill should form the foundation, with Colwill’s left-footed distribution complementing Lacroix’s recovery pace. That pairing gives Chelsea a cleaner balance between build-up quality and defensive cover.
Chalobah’s academy status makes the £30 million sale especially useful financially because Chelsea can record a large accounting gain on a homegrown player. However, the club should use that benefit to support squad discipline, not justify another spending spree. Como, meanwhile, have secured an experienced England international for Cesc Fàbregas, whose project now has another strong ball-playing defender.

The Chalobah-Como transfer should therefore mark the start of Chelsea’s defensive clear-out. Alonso needs four or five trusted centre-backs, not a crowded queue of unhappy reserves. That means more departures, clearer roles and fewer expensive names sitting idle.
