Arsenal thought they had a clear run. They don’t.

According to an exclusive interview given to MrGamble and widely reported by Metro News, former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has issued a stark warning to Arsenal over their pursuit of Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen. Saha claims the 27-year-old Nigerian international is actively holding out, waiting specifically for Manchester United to come calling before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Manchester United Transfer News: Saha reveals £65m striker Victor Osimhen is ‘waiting’ for United as Arsenal race against clock

Arteta’s side have already spent heavily this summer, bringing in Bruno Guimarães and Ezri Konsa, and are now hunting a centre-forward with hours shrinking fast. Osimhen, who plundered 76 goals across five seasons at Napoli and then added a breathtaking 64 in 77 appearances at Galatasaray, has already hit 5 goals in 3 games this campaign.

His price tag sits at £65 million. Saha went further than most pundits would dare, urging Manchester United boss Michael Carrick to trigger a late blockbuster swoop and correct historic recruitment failures by landing the Galatasaray talisman.

‘I know for a fact that Victor Osimhen is a Manchester United fan,’ Saha told MrGamble. ‘He loves Man United. I have seen it in his eyes, the impact the club has on him, and he sees the impact he could have on this team.

‘He is a very confident player. He is like Erling Haaland. He doesn’t need to see the ball very often to score goals. If he is not getting the chances he needs, he will demand them.

‘This is the type of player United need to sign. You look at his experience. He has scored 20 goals every season. He has the character, the belief, he works hard, and he is unpredictable.

‘He can make assists, and he would be a good fit for the Premier League, physically. There is absolutely no doubt about that.

‘Osimhen can be another player like Bruno Fernandes. He would quickly come to know the club inside and out. All United have to do is make the connection, but that’s why it hasn’t happened yet. Osimhen is still waiting.

‘United missed out on signing Harry Kane, and that was one of their biggest mistakes in the transfer market, but they can correct that mistake by signing Osimhen.

‘I think Osimhen is a better fit for United now than Kane because of Benjamin Sesko. Osimhen can teach Sesko about movement and being a striker, but they could also play together and combine better than Kane and Sesko could.

‘I can see it in how they each like to play. Not in every game, but in some games it would make sense, and the rest of the time they could give each other some healthy competition.

‘We had four strikers when I played for Manchester United. I didn’t have the same style of play as Ruud van Nistelrooy or Alan Smith or Carlos Tevez, but we managed to find our own separate ways because the manager was good enough to let us compete in a healthy way.

‘That’s what United need, and Osimhen would give them that and score at least 15 or 20 goals a season and provide goals for others to shine too. That’s the kind of profile of player United need to sign.’

Osimhen’s technical reality: Who actually needs him

Strip away the noise and Osimhen’s numbers are genuinely alarming for defenders. An 0.83 non-penalty goals per 90 average in Turkey puts him in rare company, somewhere near Erling Haaland’s territory in terms of cold efficiency. He wins aerial duels in the 98th percentile inside opposition boxes and fires off 4.52 shots per 90. Pure penalty-box predator.

But the Nigerian’s profile comes with very real structural demands that Arsenal probably can’t meet. His passing accuracy sits at 71.2%, and he loses possession 14.2 times per match when forced to combine under pressure in tight central areas. Arteta’s system is built entirely on that kind of intricate, high-volume short combination play through the centre.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have always operated by dropping deep, dragging centre-backs out of position, freeing the wide channels for Saka and others. Osimhen simply doesn’t do that. Spending £65 million on a forward who actively disrupts those passing lines, after already spending enormously on Guimarães and Konsa, would be genuinely poor asset management from Arsenal’s board.

Manchester United Transfer News: Why Carrick must act

Michael Carrick’s United is a completely different story. His 4-2-3-1 is vertical, direct, and built on rapid transitions from deep. Benjamin Šeško, at 23, is currently carrying the entire attacking burden alone, and that is a fragile situation. Osimhen pins centre-backs deep physically, holds the line, and creates the exact vacuum space behind defences that Carrick’s system is engineered to exploit. Šeško drifts into half-spaces; Osimhen charges channels. They complement each other organically.

Saha’s emotional argument is significant too. Osimhen is, by all accounts, a boyhood United supporter who genuinely wants Old Trafford. That psychological buy-in matters enormously when a club are rebuilding under pressure. Carrick has the tactical framework. He has the squad need. United have the emotional pull.

The £65 million question in Manchester United Transfer News now isn’t whether Osimhen fits. It’s whether United move before Arsenal panic-buy him instead.
