Chelsea transfer news has taken an interesting turn, with the Blues reportedly considering another approach for Juventus forward Kerim Alajbegovic next summer. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Transfer Feed, Chelsea could revive their interest if the 19-year-old continues to impress in Serie A.

Chelsea transfer news: Why Kerim Alajbegovic could return to the radar

The London club previously held talks with Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window over a potential €34.9 million deal. However, Alajbegovic eventually joined Juventus in August for €32 million after rejecting a personal pitch from Xabi Alonso in July.

That decision gives this potential transfer another dimension. Chelsea had identified the Bosnia-Herzegovina international as an attacking option, but the teenager chose a different project despite their efforts.

His international record already includes 16 appearances and two goals for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Meanwhile, his Juventus contract runs until June 2031, giving the Italian club considerable control over his future.

Transfermarkt currently values him at €32 million. Roma and Manchester United reportedly showed interest during the previous transfer window, suggesting Chelsea weren’t alone in tracking his development.

Alajbegovic offers an interesting profile. The young forward possesses a strong left foot, can use his right effectively and threatens opponents from wide positions. His ability to attack defenders could appeal to Alonso, particularly when Chelsea need another option against compact defensive blocks.

However, potential and immediate requirements are two different things.

Would Chelsea solve a genuine problem by revisiting Alajbegovic?

From Alonso’s perspective, another pursuit would make little sense without a clear opening in his attacking department. His 3-4-2-1 system relies on two creative players operating behind the striker, and Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers already occupy those positions.

João Pedro gives Chelsea another productive attacking option through the central areas. Consequently, spending more than €35 million on another developing forward could create unnecessary competition for minutes.

Chelsea’s recent results offer another reason to question their priorities. Three consecutive league matches without a win point towards problems that attacking recruitment alone won’t solve. Defensive organisation, midfield control and pressing consistency deserve attention.

Alajbegovic’s development under Luciano Spalletti at Juventus deserves consideration before Chelsea make another move. At 19, he still needs regular football, tactical education and experience against different defensive systems.

My view is straightforward. Alonso shouldn’t pursue him simply because Chelsea failed to secure his signature previously. The Blues need players who address identifiable weaknesses, rather than another expensive name competing for limited opportunities.

If Palmer struggles with injuries or Rogers loses consistency, the situation could change. Likewise, Alajbegovic becoming an established Juventus starter would provide stronger evidence of his readiness.

Chelsea should monitor his progress, but any 2027 approach must come with a genuine pathway into Alonso’s starting plans. Otherwise, this would represent another expensive attempt to secure a player without offering him the reason he needs to choose Stamford Bridge.
