Manchester City welcome Brighton to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, October 31, seeking a response after their 2-1 Premier League defeat at Aston Villa. Enzo Maresca‘s side remain top with 21 points from eight matches, having scored 20 goals and conceded nine. Brighton sit third with 16 points and a goal difference of +16, making this a demanding test for City as they look to protect their position in the title race.
After Wednesday’s Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton, Maresca could restore several regular starters for the league fixture. Gerónimo Rulli, Vitor Reis, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Mateo Kovačić, Allan and Floyd Samba offered options for the cup tie, but Gianluigi Donnarumma, Rúben Dias, Elliot Anderson and Erling Haaland could return for the Premier League match. Antoine Semenyo remains out with a knee injury, while Matheus Nunes has returned to training.
Manchester City predicted lineup vs Brighton
Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Abdukodir Khusanov, Marc Guéhi, Rúben Dias, Joško Gvardiol; Elliot Anderson, Enzo Fernández; Iliman Ndiaye, Rayan Cherki, Jérémy Doku; Erling Haaland.
Donnarumma could replace Rulli in goal as City return to a stronger league selection. Khusanov offers pace alongside Guéhi and Dias, while Gvardiol provides greater experience at left-back than Nico O’Reilly. Rico Lewis remains an alternative on the right, but Maresca may prefer a more established defensive unit against Brighton’s attack.
Anderson and Fernández could replace the cup pairing of Bouaddi and Kovačić, giving City greater energy and forward passing through midfield. Cherki should retain the central creative role, while Doku’s direct running makes him a strong option on the left. Allan remains an alternative on the right, although Ndiaye could offer more experience in a demanding league fixture.
Haaland should return to lead the line after Samba’s possible cup involvement. His movement gives City a clear target in the box, while Foden can challenge for a starting place if Maresca chooses another attacking option.
What could dictate City’s selection?
Brighton’s movement can punish gaps behind attacking full-backs, so Anderson and Fernández must protect the centre when City push forward. Doku and Ndiaye can stretch the visitors, allowing Cherki to find space between the lines and supply Haaland. Maresca will also need to assess Nunes’ fitness before finalising his bench, with Semenyo unavailable and several players potentially carrying fatigue from the midweek cup tie.
