Manchester United Transfer News

Manchester United Transfer News: Manchester United’s latest slump has turned their midfield into another source of uncertainty. Michael Carrick’s side sit 16th in the Premier League with seven points from eight matches, after a 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como and a 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth. The results have raised fresh questions about Carrick’s authority.

Bruno Fernandes has rarely hidden his feelings on the pitch, but his influence extends well beyond his reactions. The 32-year-old captain remains United’s leading creative force, capable of breaking lines with ambitious passes, arriving in scoring positions and setting the tempo through an aggressive press. He has three Premier League goals and one assist in seven appearances this season, plus one goal in three Champions League outings.

Those contributions explain why United cannot treat his situation as a routine contract decision. His estimated gross salary stands at £320,000 a week, while his current deal runs until June 2027 and includes a reported 12-month extension option.

Fernandes still produces decisive moments, yet his relationship with Carrick has reportedly deteriorated after he criticised the club’s direction following the Como defeat. Carrick then left him on the bench against Bournemouth and gave Harry Maguire the captain’s armband.

According to The Mirror, citing Calciomercato, AC Milan are monitoring the situation as Ruben Amorim considers a reunion with his former captain. Reports say Fernandes has a release clause of about £54.4 million, while Milan would prefer to wait until his contract expires. His reported net salary of around £8.5m a year could prove difficult for the Italian club to match.

Manchester United Transfer News: Should United sell Fernandes or protect their authority?

United should not rush to sell their captain. His output remains valuable, and losing him in January would leave Carrick short of a proven creator. However, the club cannot let contract uncertainty dictate its planning. If Fernandes wants to leave and Milan meet the clause, United should consider the offer only after identifying a credible replacement.

The board must separate a disagreement with the manager from the wider question of squad building. Fernandes remains productive, so a sale would make sense only if United could reinvest the fee in a player who offers comparable creativity and goal threat. Otherwise, the club would sacrifice their most experienced creator during a difficult campaign without addressing the gap his departure would leave.
