Arsenal transfer news: Arsenal’s attacking plans have hit an awkward fork in the road. Julian Alvarez remains at the top of Mikel Arteta’s wishlist, according to David Ornstein. The Argentine scored 20 goals and supplied 10 assists in 45 appearances for Atletico Madrid, with 10 goals arriving in the Champions League.
Atletico have rejected a £130 million approach from Real Madrid and point towards Alvarez’s £420 million release clause. Arsenal would have to smash their transfer record by a ridiculous distance to get the conversation moving.
There’s another problem. Alvarez may not fancy coming back to England, while his preference is understood to lie elsewhere at Barcelona. Spending that sort of money on a player who needs convincing before he even arrives would be a huge gamble.
Arsenal transfer news: Yildiz gives Arsenal a route that actually works
Kenan Yildiz is a different proposition right now. The 21-year-old Turkish international has been named Serie A’s Best Under-23 Player for 2025/26 after producing 11 goals and eight assists across 46 appearances for Juventus. His underlying numbers are striking too, with his shooting and chance creation figures sitting among Europe’s stronger young attackers.
Then comes the bit Arsenal will like most: Juventus need money. Missing out on Champions League football has damaged the Italian club’s finances and weakened their negotiating position. Reports of an €80-90 million structured offer, potentially involving Gabriel Jesus, make more sense than a fantasy pursuit of Alvarez.
Yildiz also fits what Arteta has been looking for. Arsenal wanted a left-winger after missing out on Vinicius Junior, and Yildiz can operate from that flank without being chained to it. He carries the ball, combines in tight spaces and has the technical quality to slip into Arsenal’s positional rotations.
Arsenal should stop chasing the impossible
There’s no shame in wanting Alvarez. He is elite, proven and built for the biggest stages. But Arsenal aren’t shopping in a vacuum. The fee is enormous, his preferences complicate matters, and Atletico won’t be bullied.

Yildiz, meanwhile, is 21 and potentially available for a figure Arsenal can structure around. Juventus have reasons to sell. Arteta gets a forward with room to explode too. Sometimes the glamorous option is simply the wrong one. Yildiz is the deal worth pushing for.
