Arsenal have made enquiries about Granada youngster Owen Emeka, although the Premier League side could face a lengthy wait before securing his signature. The latest Arsenal transfer news suggests the Gunners have started monitoring the teenager, but his immediate priority remains developing in Andalusia.

According to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, Arsenal have contacted Granada to establish the player’s availability. However, Emeka appears comfortable with his current situation and has little reason to force an exit.

Speaking to Radio MARCA, Moretto revealed that several important clubs approached Granada for Emeka last season. Despite attracting significant interest, the youngster rejected those opportunities and chose to renew his contract.

That decision offered Granada a major boost. The Spanish club now want to reward his progress with improved contractual terms, while preparing him for a bigger role within their senior setup.

Arsenal transfer news: Why Owen Emeka could remain at Granada

Emeka’s contractual situation gives Granada considerable control over his future. He has reportedly signed an agreement running until 2031, giving the club time to manage his development without accepting immediate offers.

The youngster turns 18 in April 2027, which creates another obstacle for Arsenal. Under current international transfer regulations, clubs cannot complete an international transfer involving an under-18 player unless they meet specific exceptions.

Consequently, a January 2027 move to England remains unavailable under the reported circumstances. Next summer offers a more realistic opportunity, provided the relevant transfer regulations allow the deal.

Granada have good reasons to retain him. The teenager has represented Spain at Under-17 level, and regular involvement with the first team could give him valuable experience before considering another club.

There is another financial detail worth watching. Reports indicate that Granada included a release clause in his renewed contract, although its exact value remains unclear.

Arsenal could find that clause useful if Emeka continues progressing. Real Madrid have reportedly shown interest too, meaning the Gunners might eventually face competition from another Spanish heavyweight.

Should Arsenal wait until 2027 rather than rush for Emeka?

Arsenal’s enquiry makes sense, but there is little reason to rush. Emeka has already demonstrated his willingness to prioritise development over attractive offers, and Granada can offer something Arsenal might struggle to guarantee immediately: regular senior football.

The Gunners should maintain contact with his representatives, monitor his performances and assess his progress throughout the 2026-27 campaign.

His release clause could become particularly significant in summer 2027. A fixed figure would give Arsenal greater clarity over the financial commitment, although competition from Real Madrid could complicate negotiations.

There is a risk in waiting, of course. Another club could move first, particularly if Emeka establishes himself in Granada’s senior side.

However, Arsenal should avoid signing another teenager simply because rival clubs have shown interest. They need evidence that he can handle senior football and eventually contribute at the Emirates.

My view is straightforward: Arsenal should remain interested but resist any temptation to accelerate the process. Emeka has chosen Granada once already, and that decision deserves respect. If he earns regular minutes and continues improving, Arsenal could have a serious prospect on their hands in 2027. Paying a sensible release clause would make far more sense than forcing an expensive transfer before he has proved his senior-level quality.
