Sky Sports recently reported that Manchester United are seriously interested in Arsenal prospect Miles Lewis-Skelly as they look for a long-term successor to Luke Shaw. United are currently working with a thin left-back department featuring the injury-prone Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, though the latter looks set to leave for good this coming summer. With those changes coming up, the Old Trafford recruitment team sees the 19-year-old as a top target to add real depth and competition. (Via GOAL)
Lewis-Skelly came through the whole Hale End academy system and even made his senior England debut under Thomas Tuchel in March 2025. Despite his quick rise and a contract that runs until 2030, the versatile defender has struggled to earn regular minutes this season under Mikel Arteta.
Looking at his numbers for the 2025/26 campaign, he’s made fourteen Premier League appearances, mostly off the bench, clocking about 312 minutes with a solid 89% passing accuracy. He really stood out in the Champions League with eight appearances and an assist, but he’s still mostly stuck behind Riccardo Calafiori in the pecking order at home.
Should Manchester United go all-in for the Arsenal teenager, given where both clubs are headed?
Manchester United definitely need a fresh profile like Lewis-Skelly because counting on Shaw to stay fit has become a losing battle for the club. While the teenager has elite ball-carrying skills and the brains to drift into midfield, he still struggles a bit physically in the air against traditional wingers. Arsenal might be hesitant to sell to a direct rival, but the player has to compare his loyalty against the fact that he’s currently just a bit-part player at the Emirates.
I honestly think a summer move will happen if United can guarantee him a spot in the starting eleven, especially with Malacia leaving on a free. The London club might ask for more than £50 million, but that investment get them a homegrown talent who already has six senior England caps and a goal on his international debut.

Manchester United specifically need him for next season to sharpen their build-up play, as he’s much more composed on the ball than their current options when under pressure. Even if the talks get messy, United should push this deal through to avoid another season of fixing the back four with makeshift solutions.
