New reports from GiveMeSport suggest Manchester United bosses are ready with a surprise swap deal. This move involves Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte and Sunderland’s breakout talent, Noah Sadiki. The Red Devils see Ugarte as a player they can move on from. He originally joined for £42 million with a lot of hype.
Manchester United Eye Shock Swap: Manuel Ugarte for Sunderland’s Noah Sadiki
Now, Manchester United hope he can convince the Black Cats to let go of one of the Premier League’s most exciting young players. This potential move comes after a messy stretch at Old Trafford. The board recently sacked Ruben Amorim because he couldn’t get the best out of big-money signings like Ugarte.
The Uruguayan international found it hard to keep up with the Premier League’s pace under Amorim. Things haven’t gotten any better under interim manager Michael Carrick. Coming back to the dugout, Carrick straight away benched Ugarte for the Manchester derby. He chose to stick with a midfield duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro.
That call paid off right away. United pulled off a massive win over Manchester City. So, the club leadership now think they can get more value from the 24-year-old as a trade piece than as a bench player. Sadiki moved to Sunderland from Union Saint-Gilloise for just £15 million last summer.
He has caught the eye of United scouts with his energetic performances. The report says United want to avoid a massive transfer fee. They want to offer Ugarte straight to the North East club to fix two problems at once.
Thoughts:
Trading a proven international for a 21-year-old looks a bit desperate at first. The midfielder only has six months of Premier League football under his belt. Still, the move actually makes sense when you look closer. Carrick’s tactics need players who can keep the ball under pressure.
Mainoo does this well, but Ugarte often struggles. The interim boss seems set on building around the Mainoo-Casemiro partnership. If that’s the case, leaving a £42 million asset to rot on the bench is bad business. United need to be brave to fix their old scouting mistakes. Moving Ugarte on, even if they lose money, lets them start fresh with their wage bill.

However, pulling off this trade won’t be easy. Sunderland are in a strong position. Sadiki is the engine of their midfield. Plus, they don’t really need the money right now. They might worry that Ugarte’s massive salary would upset the vibe in their dressing room. Also, trading a big-name player for a prospect is a huge gamble.
Sadiki might struggle with the bright lights at Old Trafford. The move fits the goal of signing younger, hungrier players. Even so, a straight swap is probably unlikely. Sunderland will almost definitely want cash on top of any player. That will really show how much United want him.
