Manchester United transfer news has taken another turn at left-back, with Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys emerging as a serious scouting target for INEOS.

TEAMtalk reports that United continue to monitor the 21-year-old after sending representatives to watch him against Genk. Seys produced a strong showing in Club Brugge’s 3-0 win on September 20, delivering the set-pieces that led to goals for Lee Han-beom and Brandon Mechele.
United had originally focused on Nathaniel Brown and Lewis Hall during the summer. Brown eventually joined Bayern Munich, while Hall committed his future to Newcastle, leaving United to widen their search for another left-back.
That change has pushed Seys higher up the recruitment list. Christopher Vivell, United’s director of recruitment, reportedly likes the Belgian and his profile, while the club continues to gather information before deciding whether to pursue an experienced option or a younger player with room to develop.
The Belgian has plenty to recommend him. Seys came through Club Brugge’s academy and established himself with the senior side after stepping up in 2024. He can operate on either flank, although left-back remains his main position, and his attacking delivery has added another useful string to his bow.
His contract presents the awkward part for United.
Club Brugge extended Seys’ deal until June 2029, giving the Belgian side considerable leverage. His latest recorded market value stands at €20 million, but that figure does not represent a confirmed asking price. There has been no indication of a formal club-to-club negotiation yet, with United still in the scouting phase.
Should Manchester United move for Joaquin Seys?
For United, the attraction makes sense. Luke Shaw’s fitness record has repeatedly disrupted continuity, so another left-back could give Michael Carrick greater cover and reduce the need to reshuffle his defence.
Still, I’d be wary of treating Seys as an automatic solution. A 21-year-old moving from Belgium into the Premier League would face a much tougher weekly test, and United need someone capable of contributing immediately if Shaw misses another long spell.
That said, Seys looks like the sort of signing worth serious investigation. His age, versatility, contract length and recent form explain the interest, while the 3-0 Genk performance gave United another reason to keep watching. A January deal looks difficult, though, unless Club Brugge receive an offer they cannot ignore or Seys pushes for the move himself. Any winter approach could prove especially expensive.
