Manchester United confirmed on 4 April 2026 that Patrick Dorgu is back on the grass at Carrington. The 21-year-old Dane has started individual pitch work, moving into the final stage of his recovery from a hamstring injury picked up during the 3-2 win over Arsenal on 25 January. Staff at the training ground say Dorgu has been working tirelessly, with coaches impressed by his focus during a frustrating spell on the sidelines.
Dorgu’s injury came just as he hit top form. He scored a cracker off the bar against Arsenal and had previously netted against Manchester City, and was a Goal of the Month winner against Newcastle. His ten-week recovery timeline remains on track, giving United a major fitness lift for the run-in.
While the club haven’t set an exact comeback date, the goal is to have him back in the squad for the final seven games against Leeds, Chelsea, Brentford, Liverpool, Sunderland, Forest, and Brighton. Michael Carrick has hailed Dorgu’s immense impact on the left, where his athleticism has paired perfectly with Luke Shaw.
“Pat’s been a big player for us, obviously he’s scored two goals, but in terms of the threat and athleticism and quality, he’s been immense down the side with Luke [Shaw] against two teams that ask a lot of questions,” Carrick said after the win over Arsenal. “I am delighted for him because the two goals he’s scored are very different goals. It’s nice to see him smiling and happy.” (Via The Mirror)
Big Setback – Man Utd star could face a lengthy ban on the sidelines
How will Patrick Dorgu’s return affect Manchester United?
His return also settles a tactical debate. Under Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1, Dorgu struggled as a wing-back, but Carrick’s decision to move him further forward yielded immediate results. With INEOS reportedly hunting for a new left winger this summer, these final weeks are Dorgu’s audition to prove he belongs in attack permanently. With Manchester United sitting third and a World Cup spot with Denmark on the line, Dorgu has plenty to play for.
