The Ekana Stadium in Lucknow witnessed a low-scoring yet exciting encounter between the Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. The clash between two North Indian sides showed promising and troubling signs for both teams. However, in the end, DC clinched a win over LSG, further consolidating their record against the Lucknow Super Giants.

LSG’s batting collapsed in their opening home game

The Delhi Capitals won the toss and invited the Lucknow Super Giants to bat first. LSG skipper Rishabh Pant surprised everyone with his decision to open the innings alongside Mitchell Marsh. But an unfortunate dismissal for Pant triggered the disappointing batting display for LSG.

Wickets fell in quick succession, including the likes of Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran. Towards the middle overs, the situation for the home side was so dire that they were forced to bring in Shahbaz Khan as an impact player. Abdul Samad looked promising towards the end, but consistency and a lethal bowling attack from Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, T. Natrajan, and Lungi Ngidi meant LSG were bowled out for a total of 141 runs.

Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs paved the way for a comfortable DC win

Lucknow Super Giants had an explosive start with the ball. Mohamed Shami got the better of KL Rahul on the first ball of the innings. Prince Yadav, too, provided a fiery start with the bowl. The Capitals looked vulnerable with the entire top order back in the pavilion. Still, Indian uncapped sensation Sameer Rizvi and South African ace batter Tristan Stubbs halted LSG’s progress, including their dream of winning the maiden IPL match.

Rizvi’s 70-run knock off 47 balls and Stubbs’ 39-run innings saw DC through the run chase and secure a 6-wicket win for their side. With this, the Capitals managed to overcome their first hurdle of the season. Even with promising signs from LSG’s pacers, the batting collapse turned out to be detrimental for them.
