Lucknow Super Giants secured their first win of IPL 2026 after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Chasing 157, LSG reached 160 for 5 in 19.5 overs. Captain Rishabh Pant played a calm innings of 68 not out to guide his team home with one ball left.

Mohammed Shami was named Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling spell of 2 for 9. His early breakthroughs helped LSG control the game from the start.

Shami puts SRH under pressure early

SRH chose to bat first but the decision did not work early on. Shami bowled with great control in the power play and removed Abhishek Sharma for 0 and Travis Head for 7. SRH struggled to score runs, reaching only 35 for 4 after 10 overs.

The pitch was not easy to bat on and LSG bowlers used the conditions well. SRH needed a strong partnership to recover, and they got it through Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Klaasen and Reddy rebuild innings

Klaasen scored 62 runs from 41 balls while Reddy made 56 from 33 balls. Both batters attacked the bowlers between overs 11 and 15, adding 116 runs together. Their partnership gave SRH hope of reaching a big total.

However, LSG bowlers came back strongly in the final overs. Avesh Khan and Prince Yadav bowled tight lines and stopped SRH from crossing 170. SRH finished at 156 for 9 in 20 overs.

Pant guides LSG in chase

LSG started the chase in a steady way, with Aiden Markram scoring 45 runs and playing attacking shots early in the innings. Even though LSG lost wickets in the middle overs, Pant stayed calm at the crease.

Pant paced his innings smartly and completed his half-century in the 18th over. With 9 runs needed in the final over, he kept control and hit the winning boundary. His unbeaten 68 helped LSG win a close match.

Turning point of the match

The wicket of Nitish Kumar Reddy in the 18th over stopped SRH from scoring more runs at the end. Earlier in the chase, Markram scored important runs against Jaydev Unadkat, which helped LSG stay ahead in the run chase.

Overall, it was a balanced match, with bowling and calm batting making the difference for LSG.
