Punjab Kings continued their strong run in IPL 2026 with an exciting win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mullanpur. Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head once again gave their team a powerful start. The pair attacked from the first over and put the PBKS bowlers under pressure. SRH reached 105 runs without losing any wicket in the first 6 overs, which is the joint third highest Powerplay total in IPL history.
Abhishek Sharma played an outstanding knock of 74 runs from just 28 balls. He hit 8 sixes and 5 fours, scoring freely all around the ground. Travis Head also supported him well with 38 runs. At one stage, SRH looked set for a total close to 300.
PBKS fight back in middle overs
The match changed in the 9th over when Shashank Singh dismissed both openers in the same over. This helped PBKS slow down the scoring rate. The bowlers stayed calm and gave away only 91 runs in the last 11 overs. SRH finally finished with 219 for 6, which was still a strong total but not as big as it first looked.
Strong start helps PBKS chase comfortably
Punjab Kings started their chase in a very aggressive way. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh attacked the SRH bowlers and added 93 runs for the first wicket in quick time. After the openers got out, captain Shreyas Iyer played a smart and controlled innings. He scored an unbeaten 69 runs from 33 balls and made sure PBKS stayed ahead in the chase. Shashank Singh also contributed with 16 runs from 9 balls and hit the winning four off Abhishek Sharma in the 19th over.
