Manchester United move into the final phase of the 2025–26 Premier League season stuck in a loop. They are talented enough to sit third in the table, yet fragile enough to collapse at home against a relegation-threatened Leeds United. Noah Okafor’s double at Old Trafford on 13 April handed interim boss Michael Carrick a bitter milestone: the first home league defeat to Leeds since 1981.

With Ruben Amorim dismissed in January after less than 14 months, Carrick has kept things steady, but he hasn’t yet convinced the fans that the club are out of the woods. United travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on 18 April, where a win could put them 10 points clear of the Blues. However, the club’s coaching vacuum remains a massive distraction, which is one that now threatens to see their most vital player walk out the door.

Galatasaray are interested as Bruno Fernandes’ future grows uncertain

According to the Turkish outlet Takvim, Galatasaray have made Bruno Fernandes their top priority for the summer window as they look to secure a world-class number ten. This isn’t just paper talk; Turkish journalist Burhan Can Terzi reports that the Istanbul giants have already reached out to the midfielder’s representatives. Meanwhile, reports from Fichajes in Spain suggest the club are ready to set aside €60 million for the deal, sensing that United’s current instability offers a real opening.

Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on the situation, and there is ongoing interest from the Saudi Pro League. While Fernandes is valued at €40 million by Transfermarkt, his contract runs until 2027 with a club option, and notably, he has a £56.7 million release clause that applies only to non-Premier League sides.

His output this year explains why Europe’s elite are interested: eight goals and 17 assists in 29 matches. His expected assists (xA) of 0.60 per 90 minutes puts him in the top one per cent of the entire league.

Fabrizio Romano drops massive transfer update on French midfielder wanted at Old Trafford

Do Manchester United actually stand to lose their captain this summer?

The reality is that his future likely hinges on who gets the permanent manager’s job. Fernandes hasn’t hidden the fact that he nearly left Old Trafford last summer, and those exit talks are bound to get louder in the coming weeks. While Galatasaray might realise they are long shots to actually sign him, a high-profile chase suits their club president’s re-election campaign perfectly.

Even so, the danger for United is genuine. Losing a player of this calibre as he nears the end of his peak years would be a massive blow. A €60 million fee might look okay on the books, but replacing a man responsible for 25 goal involvements this season is a near-impossible task.

Targets like Morgan Gibbs-White are talented, but they can’t simply step into those shoes overnight. Manchester United’s board needs to find a permanent manager before the window opens, or they risk giving the likes of Galatasaray and Bayern way too much room to breathe.
