Manchester United predicted XI vs Brentford: Carrick eyes a vital Champions League step
Manchester United host Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday, April 27, 2026, for a massive Premier League clash for both sides. The Red Devils are currently third in the table after a strong run, having lost only twice in their last 10 games and picked up six wins. It looks like they’re well on their way to a top-five finish. Michael Carrick has really turned things around since taking over in January, and three points here would pretty much lock in Champions League football for next season. Brentford won’t be easy, though; they’ve drawn their last five games in a row, making them a tough nut to crack.
The injury picture heading into Monday night
Carrick has confirmed that Patrick Dorgu is still out as he recovers from a hamstring injury; he’s back working but isn’t in full training yet. Matthijs de Ligt is also still on the sidelines with that nagging back issue that’s kept him out for nearly five months. There’s a bit of a question mark over Leny Yoro after he took a hit before the Chelsea game, but the word is it’s not too serious, and United hope he’ll be ready. Even so, I’d expect Carrick to keep Yoro on the bench and stick with the defence that just kept a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge.
How will Manchester United line up against Brentford?
Altay Bayındır stays in his backup role as Senne Lammens gets the nod between the posts. Diogo Dalot will be in his usual spot at right-back, looking to get forward and provide some energy on the wing. At centre-back, Noussair Mazraoui and Ayden Heaven should keep their places. They did a great job as a makeshift pair against Chelsea, and there’s no reason for Carrick to change a winning formula.
Not Rosenior – The actual reasons Chelsea are in turmoil
Luke Shaw will start at left-back as he continues to find his rhythm after so long out injured. In the middle, Casemiro, who has incredibly scored seven of his eight goals this year from set pieces, will sit in the pivot with Kobbie Mainoo. Mainoo looked sharp against Chelsea and gave the team some much-needed legs in midfield.
Bruno Fernandes takes his usual spot in the hole to pull the strings and handle dead-ball duties. On the wings, we’ll see Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, with Benjamin Šeško leading the line. Šeško has been one of the most clinical strikers of 2026 so far. This front four has already racked up 58 league goals since Mbeumo, Šeško, and Cunha arrived in the summer, and they’ll definitely give this stubborn Brentford defence a real test. With the fans behind them and plenty of momentum, United should have enough to grab all three points.
End of road at Old Trafford – 3 Players almost certain to leave Man Utd
Predicted Man Utd XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Mazraoui, Heaven, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko.
