Manchester United eye Lyon’s Afonso Moreira in summer push
Manchester United have made a formal enquiry for Lyon winger Afonso Moreira as they look to beef up the squad before returning to the Champions League in 2026/27. The 21-year-old moved to Lyon last summer for just €2 million, but he’s already racked up eight goals and 11 assists in 35 games. That kind of form has caught the eye of scouts across England, Germany, and Italy.
While he was originally one for the future, Moreira forced his way into the lineup after Malick Fofana’s injury in the autumn and hasn’t looked back since. Lyon’s money troubles mean a deal for around €25 million is on the cards, though Sporting CP still have a 20 per cent sell-on clause. At the same time, Lyon are considering a new contract to reward his breakout season, which might make a summer move a bit more complicated.
Michael Carrick‘s side booked their spot in the Champions League with a top-five finish, highlighted by a massive 3-2 win over Liverpool. Now, the focus is on building a squad that can handle four competitions at once. Moreira offers plenty of pace and a direct threat from the left, even if he still needs to work on his aerial game and finding space against deep-sitting defences.
