Arsenal

Ajax have made a serious move to sign Christian Nørgaard from Arsenal. They see the Dane as the perfect player to anchor their midfield. According to reports from CaughtOffside, the Dutch giants value the 31-year-old’s leadership and believe his tactical discipline is exactly what they need for their Eredivisie title charge.

Ajax launch audacious raid for Arsenal’s Christian Nørgaard

Reports suggest that negotiations are already moving forward. Sources suggest Nørgaard is open to the move after struggling to get minutes in North London. His contract runs until 2027, but the chance to play every week at the Johan Cruyff Arena is a massive draw.

The midfielder isn’t short of options, though. Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, AS Roma, and Lazio are all keeping a close eye on things. They are hoping to secure him before the window closes.

The Stagnation of a Scandinavian Stalwart

Since his surprise move to the Emirates in July 2025, Nørgaard has mostly been watching from the sidelines. This season has been tough for the former Brentford captain. As of January 29, the Dane has only made three appearances off the bench in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta has stuck with a midfield trio of Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, and summer signing Martín Zubimendi. This has left Nørgaard with nothing but sporadic minutes in the Carabao Cup or filling in at centre-back whenever injuries strike.

The numbers from these short appearances show a player who can’t find his flow. Nørgaard is averaging just 19 minutes per game in the league with no goals or assists, even if his passing is still sharp at 88%. He’s a player who needs consistent minutes to perform, but right now, he’s just stuck in the stands.

What Should Arsenal Do?

Arsenal need to sell. Nørgaard’s market value is only going to drop from here. Arsenal reportedly want between €15–17 million, which is great business for a 31-year-old who isn’t in the starting eleven.

Keeping him around doesn’t offer much value past being an emergency backup. Putting that money toward a younger, more energetic player, or just cleaning up the wage bill, makes much more sense for the club’s future.

Arteta rarely touches his main midfield in big games. Keeping an unhappy veteran around doesn’t help anyone, especially when he’s blocking the path for youngsters like Myles Lewis-Skelly. Sanctioning this move is the best result for everyone involved. Arsenal recoup funds, Ajax gain a leader, and Nørgaard actually gets to play football again.
