Williams, meanwhile, delivered six goals and seven assists in 32 appearances for Athletic Club despite missing 19 matches through injury. His €100 million (£87 million) release clause removes the uncertainty that usually surrounds deals of this size. Arsenal would know the price from day one, allowing the club to move without weeks of exhausting negotiations.
