Man Utd keen on deal to sign £25m Serie A star – Carrick wants him at Old Trafford

Carlos Augusto Manchester United: Manchester United reignite interest in Inter Milan defender Carlos Augusto

Carlos Augusto Manchester United: Manchester United have launched a fresh enquiry for Inter Milan left-back Carlos Augusto as they scramble to solve their ongoing defensive depth crisis ahead of the new campaign. The Old Trafford recruitment team previously made contact earlier this year. Now, reports from Fichajes confirm that interest has been firmly reignited. United want a reliable alternative to Luke Shaw, whose fitness record continues to cause major headaches for the manager. They have the cash to burn here. A £25m price tag will not frighten the decision-makers in Manchester.

The battle for the Brazilian

It will not be a straightforward run to the signature. Juventus and Roma are both keeping close tabs on the 27-year-old. Italian clubs know his value well. But the lure of the Premier League is a massive factor here. The chance to test himself in England could easily tilt the scales in United’s favour.

Augusto was a massive part of Inter’s setup during the recent campaign. He clocked up 34 league appearances, chipped in with a goal, and kept things incredibly tidy with an 89% passing accuracy. He fits the modern profile perfectly. The South American can play as a traditional left-back or push higher up as an energetic wing-back. That sort of versatility makes him an incredibly attractive option for a squad that looked completely stretched at times last year.

Scorzo’s take: Heavy rotation is non-negotiable

Elite European football means a brutal calendar. The relentless schedule of domestic cups and continental campaigns requires serious depth, not just a strong starting eleven. Weekly rotation is going to be standard practice next term. Signing a peak-age defender who already has a Serie A winner’s medal makes complete sense. He brings proper top-level experience into a dressing room that desperately needs more leaders. Manchester United need to make a move quickly on this one before their Italian rivals try to hijack the deal.
