The Pakistan Super League 2026 season will now be played only in Lahore and Karachi after the Pakistan Cricket Board reduced the number of venues from six to two. The decision comes due to government austerity measures linked to the fuel crisis caused by the West Asia situation. All matches will be played behind closed doors, meaning fans will not be allowed inside the stadiums.
The tournament schedule remains unchanged. Both Lahore and Karachi will host 22 matches each in the 11th edition of the league. The tournament will begin on March 26, as defending champions Lahore Qalandars take on the new team, Hyderabad Kingsmen, at Gaddafi Stadium.
Matches to follow original dates
Despite the venue change, the PCB confirmed that the match dates will remain unchanged. The first 14 matches of the tournament will be played in Lahore until April 6. After that, Karachi will host 15 matches. The league will then return to Lahore on April 21 for an afternoon game, while the night match on the same day will be played in Karachi.
Both cities will also host double-header match days on April 22, 23, 25, and 26. The qualifier, which was earlier planned for Rawalpindi, will now be played in Karachi on April 28. Lahore will host the two eliminator matches on April 21 and May 1, along with the final on May 3 as originally planned.
PCB explains decision to remove crowds
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi explained the reason behind the move during a press conference. He said the board could not ask people to limit travel while also allowing thousands of fans to gather in stadiums every day. According to Naqvi, the decision was difficult but necessary due to the ongoing crisis. The opening ceremony of the tournament has also been cancelled.
Focus on better broadcast experience
The PCB said that even though fans will not be present in stadiums, the league will focus on improving the viewing experience for audiences watching from home. The board plans to introduce better broadcast and production features to make the tournament more engaging for viewers across Pakistan and worldwide.
The PCB remains confident that strong fan interest and improved coverage will help PSL 2026 become one of the most-watched seasons in the league’s history.
