Manchester City beat Chelsea 3–0 at Stamford Bridge on 12 April, keeping their Premier League title hopes alive with a dominant second-half display. After a goalless first half where Chelsea held their own, City took control after the break. Nico O’Reilly headed in the opener just six minutes after the restart, Marc Guehi doubled the lead almost immediately, and Jeremy Doku punished a costly Moises Caicedo error to make it three. The defeat leaves Chelsea four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool in the race for Champions League qualification, with Liam Rosenior‘s side now managing just one win in their last seven league matches.
Chelsea players rated after 3-0 PL loss against Manchester City:
Robert Sanchez – 4/10: He probably should have done better with at least one of City’s goals, as both the first and second were within reach, though he was left totally exposed by his defence. His distribution was poor, with several aimless clearances going straight back to Donnarumma.
Malo Gusto – 5/10: Five tackles and plenty of energy stood out on a difficult match, but he rarely got forward and offered almost nothing in the final third.
Wesley Fofana – 6/10: Nine clearances and a goal-saving block made for a decent individual performance, even if the scoreline makes the whole backline look bad.
Jorrel Hato – 6.5/10: Hato made a superb tackle to deny Erling Haaland what looked like a certain goal early on and looked comfortable in an unfamiliar position, keeping Antoine Semenyo relatively quiet. He was easily Chelsea’s most composed defender.
Marc Cucurella – 7/10: Dangerous going forward and handled Semenyo well. He nearly beat Donnarumma twice and was one of the few Chelsea players who looked like scoring. His work rate was excellent despite the result.
Moisés Caicedo – 4/10: Uncharacteristically sluggish and heavy-touched, the mistake for City’s third goal capped off a nightmare afternoon for a player usually considered world-class. It’s a game he’ll want to forget quickly.
Andrey Santos – 5/10: Santos lost his man on the cross for O’Reilly’s opener and never looked settled alongside Caicedo. The two of them seemed to get in each other’s way when Chelsea had the ball.
Gerrard – This £120m star attacker could be the ‘perfect’ replacement for Salah
Pedro Neto – 4/10: He had several chances to break in the first half but wasted all of them, and his set-piece delivery in Enzo Fernández’s absence was poor.
Cole Palmer – 6/10: He wasted a great three-on-two opportunity early on and kept things simple without ever really opening City up. He only started to find space once the game was already over.
Estêvão – 4/10: He looked off the pace from the start and never got into the game. He was caught offside twice and was substituted before the hour mark after a struggling performance.
João Pedro – 5/10: Lively in the first half but disappeared after the break. He looked frustrated as he headed for the bench.
Contact has been made with attacker – Chelsea star destined to leave Stamford Bridge
Substitutes (Garnacho, Lavia, Essugo, Acheampong, Delap) – 5/10 collectively: None of them changed the momentum of the game. They came on too late to make an impact on a result that was already settled.
