South Africa produced a clinical show with bat and ball to defeat India by 76 runs in a T20 World Cup Super Eight match in Ahmedabad. After posting 187 for 7, they bowled India out for 111 with sharp plans and brave tactical calls that exposed India’s weak spots against offspin and slower balls.

India were under pressure from the first over of the chase and never recovered.

Offspin strikes again

The match turned early when Aiden Markram removed Ishan Kishan for a four ball duck. An offspinner taking a wicket in the first over is becoming a pattern for India in this tournament. Kishan, known as a strong player of spin, fell cheaply and set the tone for the collapse.

Speaking on TimeOut, Faf du Plessis said it was surprising to see India struggle so much against offspin. He pointed out that players like Kishan, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav are usually good against that type of bowling. Yet South Africa kept attacking with spin and built pressure.

Later, Keshav Maharaj tightened the screws further. He dismissed Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh by bowling wide and denying them room to free their arms. Hardik managed only 18 from 17 balls as India fell behind the asking rate.

Pace off plan works perfectly.

South Africa’s planning was not limited to spin. Lungi Ngidi bowled with a clear plan to take pace off the ball. He did not pick up a wicket but gave away just 15 runs in four overs. More than half of his deliveries were slower balls, which upset India’s timing.

Du Plessis explained that if something works, teams should stick to it. On a ground like Ahmedabad, slower balls are not always the first choice, but South Africa adjusted quickly after reading the pitch.

Marco Jansen added to the pressure with four wickets at an economy rate under six. Only a few length balls to Shivam Dube offered relief to India, but by then the match had slipped away.

Clear plans in the field

South Africa also set smart fields for batters like Abhishek Sharma. They cut off his strong areas and forced him to think about new scoring options. Though he made 15 from 12 balls, he never looked in control.

Every move showed clear planning. South Africa stayed calm, backed their ideas and executed them well. India, in contrast, looked unsure and paid the price in a heavy defeat that could affect their confidence for the rest of the tournament.
